The Secret Language of the Strictly It Takes Two Sofa...
I know that there's a mountain of posts and blogs across a heap of feeds that focuses on the Strictly scoring statistics - but, perhaps what's most interesting are not the actual scores, but what's said by judges, celebs and professionals over the series.
So... with this in mind - what can the "It Takes Two", Season 23 sofa interviews tell us about the growth of the emotional connection between the three season finalists?
Interestingly, quite a lot...
I looked at how George and Alexis, Amber and Nikita, and Karen and Carlos spoke about each other in all their sofa interviews. When you look at their answers, you can actually track how their emotional connection developed through the series. You can clock the differences in how each couple built trust, support, and partnership.
George and Alexis started with a light connection. In weeks 1 to 3, George focused more on himself than the partnership. He said, “I keep messing up,” and “I am trying to get through it.” He joked often, which reduced emotional depth. Alexis supported him in a calm way and kept her focus on helping him settle. You didn't see strong emotional language early on. In weeks 4 to 7, their connection became clearer. George began to include Alexis in his answers. He said, “We worked hard this week,” and “She has helped me a lot.” Alexis spoke more about his effort and progress. By weeks 8 to 12, their bond looked stronger. George showed more appreciation. He said, “I felt better out there because of her,” and “We wanted to improve together.” Alexis spoke with pride about his development. You could see a shift from light interaction to a more grounded partnership.
Amber and Nikita showed a different pattern. Their emotional connection appeared early and stayed strong. In weeks 1 to 3, Amber spoke about Nikita with trust. She said, “He has been so patient,” and “He helps me through it.” Her answers showed reliance and support. Nikita responded with encouragement. He often spoke about her effort and attitude. In weeks 4 to 7, their connection deepened. Amber said, “I feel more comfortable with him,” and “We are getting closer each week.” Nikita praised her growth and commitment. Their answers showed mutual respect. By weeks 8 to 12, their bond became central to their story. Amber said, “I feel proud of what we have done,” and “This journey has meant a lot to me.” Nikita spoke about her progress with clear pride. You saw a steady and consistent emotional connection from start to finish.
Karen and Carlos showed a more controlled connection. In weeks 1 to 3, Karen spoke in a focused way. She said, “We are working on the routine,” and “We want to get the details right.” Carlos spoke about technique and structure. Their answers showed cooperation, but less emotional expression. In weeks 4 to 7, their connection developed through work. Karen said, “We are improving each week,” and “We worked hard together.” Carlos continued to focus on performance, but he began to mention her effort more often. By weeks 8 to 12, their connection showed through shared achievement. Karen said, “We delivered that performance,” and “I am pleased with how it went.” Carlos spoke about refinement and teamwork. Their bond came through in how they spoke about shared goals.
When you compare the three, you see different types of emotional connection.
George and Alexis built their connection over time. Amber and Nikita showed strong connection from the start and deepened it. Karen and Carlos showed a steady, work-based connection. Looking at all their interviews and their choice of words, you can follow how each partnership developed emotional connections in their own way.
Scores may indeed make for a numerical comparison, but on the journey to the Strictly glitterball, it's words that illuminate the emotional, creative and ethereal transformation of the dance :)
